Our services
Stone Masonry in Yorkshire
We repoint and repair Yorkshire stone houses, cottages and walls using breathable lime mortars across South & West Yorkshire. Lime protects natural gritstone and sandstone, where hard cement can trap moisture and damage it. Free site visits and written quotes, backed by a 15-year workmanship guarantee.
What does stone masonry involve?
Yorkshire is famous for its stone buildings. From gritstone cottages on the Pennine edge to sandstone villas and dry boundary walls, natural stone gives the region much of its character. Looking after it properly, though, takes a different approach from modern brickwork.
Stone walls were almost always built with lime mortar, which lets moisture move in and out of the wall. When those walls are later repointed with hard cement, water becomes trapped in the stone and the faces begin to flake and erode. A lot of our stone work involves carefully removing unsuitable cement pointing and replacing it with a breathable lime mix.
Our stone masonry service covers repointing of stone houses and outbuildings, repairs to stone walls, rebuilding loose or fallen sections, and resetting copings and sills. We match the colour and texture of the mortar to the stone, and finish joints in a style appropriate to the building, whether that is flush, slightly recessed or brushed back.
We work on homes across South and West Yorkshire, including the stone-built villages around Penistone, Barnsley and western Sheffield.
