Brick Pointing & Repointing in Yorkshire

Yorkshire Pointing Specialists rakes out worn mortar and repoints brick walls with matched lime or sand-cement mortar across Sheffield and South & West Yorkshire. Repointing stops rain getting into your walls and restores a clean finish. We bring around 15 years" pointing experience, free site visits and a 15-year workmanship guarantee.

What does brick pointing & repointing involve?

Mortar is the sacrificial part of any wall. It is meant to be softer than the brick around it, so that over the years the joints wear away instead of the bricks themselves. Eventually, though, those joints recede, crack or crumble, and rainwater starts to find its way in. Repointing replaces that tired mortar with fresh material, restoring the wall's defence against the weather and bringing back a clean, even appearance.

We have spent around fifteen years doing little else but pointing, and that focus shows in the finish. Across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield and the rest of South and West Yorkshire we repoint everything from a single bay window to the full elevations of detached houses and commercial buildings.

Every wall is assessed before we quote. We look at the age of the property, the type of brick and the original mortar, then recommend either a traditional lime mix or a suitable sand and cement mortar. Older, softer bricks almost always need lime so moisture can escape through the joints; using hard cement on them can trap water and cause the faces of the bricks to spall.

We also match the joint profile, whether that is flush, bucket-handle, weatherstruck or recessed, and blend the mortar colour so the new work sits naturally alongside neighbouring properties.
